The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has announced the dissolution of the third administration of the group's Directorate of State (DOS) and the inauguration of a new leadership structure.
In a statement issued on Tuesday from Langerfeld, Germany, Kanu said the decision followed what he described as a comprehensive review of the performance of the outgoing administration during a critical period in the Biafra restoration movement.
As part of the reorganization, Kanu appointed Chris Nwaọgụ, based in the United States, as the Head of the newly inaugurated fourth administration of the Directorate of State. He is expected to immediately assume responsibility for the administration, coordination, and day-to-day affairs of IPOB.
According to the statement, the Directorate of State was established in 2012 as the administrative arm of IPOB. Previous heads of the body include Dr. Justin Akujieze, Mazi Uchenna Asiegbu, and Chika Edoziem, who headed the third administration since March 2017.
Explaining the reasons behind the dissolution, Kanu alleged that the outgoing administration failed to adequately address the welfare of detained IPOB members, particularly those held in various detention facilities across Nigeria. He also cited internal disputes, misplaced priorities, and an inability to effectively protect the integrity and communication structures of the movement.
The IPOB leader stated that the new administration has been mandated to restore unity, strengthen accountability, improve welfare programmes, and refocus the movement on its core objectives.
The newly announced leadership team includes Mazi Solomon Egbo as Deputy Head of the Directorate of State, Nwada Ogwu Nnennaya Anya I. as Head of Finance and Budget Planning, Dr. Chukwudi Nwogwugwu as Head of Medical and Welfare Planning, Barrister Ikechukwu Onuoha as Head of Media, and Comrade Emma Powerful as Spokesperson and Media/Publicity Secretary, among others.
Kanu also announced the establishment of an Elders Advisory Council, which he said would serve as a strategic advisory body positioned between the IPOB leader and the Directorate of State in the group's hierarchy.
In addition, all previously suspended or expelled officers were reinstated pending further administrative review, while coordinators and officials worldwide were directed to establish immediate contact with IPOB's headquarters in Germany for further directives.
The statement further advised supporters to rely on Biafra Radio and Biafran Vanguard for official communications, noting that efforts were underway to recover and restore Radio Biafra.
Kanu reaffirmed IPOB's commitment to what he described as the pursuit of justice, freedom, self-determination, and the restoration of Biafra, urging members worldwide to remain disciplined and focused as the new administration takes over.
